New QiK Chip™ Oscillator Technology Announced

Yankton, South Dakota - June 13, 2005 - Recognizing the need for the frequency control industry to offer stronger options for low jitter, high frequency products to design engineers, MtronPTI is introducing new families of Clock Oscillators and Voltage Controlled Oscillators that use a new, cutting edge ASIC. This ASIC was designed specifically for use in crystal oscillators to provide low jitter and very high frequencies while it provides a breakthrough in lean manufacturing. MtronPTI will provide this technology under the brand name of QiK Chip™, pronounced quick chip. This name is based on a key feature of the technology that will allow MtronPTI to offer these products with very short lead times, typically less than 2 weeks.
The QiK Chip™ is in a small die that will allow MtronPTI to offer oscillator products in package sizes ranging from 3.5x6mm SMD up to full size DIP through-holes packages. The key performance features include low jitter (0.3 picosecond integrated jitter is typical) and high frequencies (up to 1.4 GHz). Using 0.13 micron, CMOS technology, MtronPTI expects the QiK Chip™ to be the backbone of many new high performance timing products during the next several years. “The technology in our QiK Chip™, is the culmination of years of effort by MtronPTI and a leading timing IC company”, commented Joe Doyle, the VP of Engineering for MtronPTI. “It uses several proprietary analog and digital design features that we expect will provide our customers with an expanded range of design options to speed up their product design efforts. We expect this technology to have a high level of intrinsic reliability and robustness.”
MtronPTI expects to offer two product families using this technology during the summer of 2005. The MtronPTI M2100 family is a 5x7mm SMD clock oscillator available in frequencies from 150MHz up to 1,400MHz. It is available in PECL, LVDS and CML outputs at 3.3v and lower voltages. The M3100 family is a 5x7mm SMD voltage controlled oscillator with the same frequency range and output options. This family will be available with a variety of deviation
sensitivities that will allow it to be used in many applications filled by SAW (surface acoustic wave) oscillators. The short lead-times and high inherent thermal stability of the M3100 family will offer product designers some very attractive options. Dick Thompson, the VP of Sales and Marketing for MtronPTI, stated: “We are working with several of our customers to determine which product configuration will bring them the most value. The combination of low jitter and very short lead-times is of high interest, particularly to customer doing leading work in high speed Ethernet, microwave radios, advanced SONET devices, and high precision test and measurement equipment.
