Job Title: Machinist V – Lead
Department: Operations
Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Job Class: Hourly Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: Dependent upon experience
Position Summary:
A lead machinist oversees and coordinates the production of precision parts and tools using various types of machines. They are responsible for creating and modifying the programs, selecting and setting up the appropriate tools and materials, managing and scheduling the workload, inventories, and equipment of the machinist team.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and schedule the machining operations to meet the production deadlines and quality standards
- Order and manage the inventory of raw materials and cutting tools needed for the CNC operations
- Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output
- Select and set up the appropriate tools, machines, and programs
- Operate and monitor the machines, adjusting controls as needed
- Check and verify the accuracy and quality of the finished products
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues or problems with the machines or the products
- Maintain and clean the machines and the work area
- Manage and program CNC mills, lathes, and other equipment
- Experience with machining different materials (aluminum, stainless steel, brass, durostone and phenolic)
- Oversee the operations of the machine operators, providing guidance and training
- Schedule the workload, inventories, and production equipment in the machine shop
- Support engineering and production requirements
- All other assigned duties
Supervises: None
Knowledge, skills, & Abilities:
- 5+ years experience running CNC machinery
- Proficient in Mastercam is required
- Firm grasp of GD&T
- Experience with Aerospace drawings, blueprints, and sketches
- Works well with others
- Able to communicate effectively with others and understand verbal and written instructions
- Self-motivated
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
Education, Experience, & Training:
- High school education or GED
- Technical or Vocation education a plus
- CNC Training
Physical Requirements & Working Environment:
- Some light lifting required
- Sitting for long periods
- US Citizenship required
- Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance
