Reports to: Production Supervisor

Position Summary:

This position performs frequent rigorous tasks such as, mounting, cleaning, washing, and inspection of components under a microscope. These processes require knowledge of use of various equipment such as bake ovens, ultrasonic cleaners, as well as various tools such as microscopes, hand brushes and hand tools. The assembler will also load and operate various automated equipment and perform a variety of tasks in conjunction with component assembly.

Solder Assembler 1 – Able to read and following procedures Exactly as written
– Continues to follow good manufacturing practices (2D0-1004) including STEP-C
– Understands all aspects of Sn63 solder assembly including
– Thru-hole components
– Surface mount chips 0402 and larger
– Must recognize J-STD-001 standard regarding materials, methods, and acceptance criteria for producing solder electrical and electronic assemblies
– Full understanding of MtronPTI ESD procedures
– Use of hand tools such as torque tools, calipers, wire stripping, tinning pots, vacuum ovens, etc.
– Capable of performing tin and wick operations for gold mitigation
– Follow safe guidlines for chemical storage and use
– Maintains safe and clean working areas.
Solder Assembler 2 – All functions of Solder Assembler 1
– Able to be self-sufficient in main work area
– Assists in preparing and lining up work for Solder Assembler 1 personnel.
– Understands all aspects of Sn96 solder assembly including:
– Thru-hole components
– Surface mount chips 0402 and larger
– Understands and uses leak detection equipment (Gross / Fine), performs epoxy processes
Solder Assembler 3 – All functions of solder assembler 2
– Able to be self-sufficient in main work area
– Assists in preparing and lining up work for Solder Assembler 1 personnel
– Understands all aspects of Sn10 solder assembly including
– Thru-hole components
– Surface mount chips0402 and larger
– Is well cross trained within their main department but can also work in other departments within the production area.
Solder Assembler 4 – All function of Solder Assembler 3
– Fully understands Space Addendum of J-STD-001
– Continually works and produces S-Level Assembly work
– Able to be self-sufficient in the main work area
– Assists in preparing and lining up work for other personnel
– Works with process engineering to suggest changes in process or products to improve throughout, yeild, etc.
– Periodically checks with other peers or line leads to support other functions as needed in the finish product line

– Is recognized as the resident expert in the assembly area
– Typically , an Area Lead with additional responsibilities of assigning work, inspections, AX transactions and other similar responsibilities as assigned.
– Is well cross trained within their main department but can also work in other departments within the production area.

– Ability to switch between areas daily as needed

– Ability to be easily cross trained in various locations
– Exceptional communication skills with peers, supervisors, and engineering teams
Solder Assembler 4 – All skills from Solder Assembler 3
– Complete Mastery of procedures and processes in area as well as J-STD-001, S-level assembly techniques
Solder Assembler 5 – All skills from Solder Assembler 4
– Ability to direct others
– Computer skills for AX transactions and other data entry requirements

Education, Experience, & Training:

Category Education, Experience, & Training:
Solder Assembler 1 – Basic soldering skills are required
– Valencia EBA assembly class or similar training required
Solder Assembler 2 – One year of operator level experience required
Solder Assembler 3 – Two years of operator level experience required
Solder Assembler 4 – Two years of operator level experience required + Mastery of space level assembler
Solder Assembler 5 – 5+ years of advanced experience required

Physical Requirements & Working Environment:

  • Some light lifting required
  • Sitting for long periods
  • Squatting or bending
  • Walking around the cell or production floor
  • Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance
