Position Summary:

This position is responsible for providing mechanical engineering oversight to a group of electrical design engineers developing new RF and Microwave components and subsystems. It also provides project coordination support to the design group by monitoring milestones and updating schedules for all projects. Supports project teams in a fast-paced team environment to deliver new products to customers on time, meeting or exceeding all requirements and resulting in profitable products when transitioned to production.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply principles of mechanical engineering and utilize Finite Element Modeling and simulation software to mechanically optimize new military and aerospace products.
  • Develop and document mechanical design best practices for new and existing product families.
  • Review, optimize, and approve all new mechanical drawings.
  • Ensure new products are mechanically designed to meet all applicable regulatory standards (MIL, ANSI, ASTM, etc…).
  • Use FEM tools to perform detailed analyses and generate reports to show compliance with customers’ environmental requirements like vibration, shock, temperature, and pressure.
  • Estimate costs of mechanical components utilized in new products, including material and labor of internally machined or fabricated housings/covers in support of quotes for new products.
  • Interface with Manufacturing Engineering to develop and optimize new and existing mechanical processes required to support new products.
  • Provide technical support to production and purchasing departments to ensure housing, covers and other mechanical components for prototypes are procured and delivered on time.
  • Develop, monitor, and update milestone charts for all projects in the department.
  • Participate in required project meetings: Project kick-offs, peer design reviews, schedule-reviews and pre-ship reviews.
  • Provide necessary mechanical engineering support during transition of new products to production.
  • Support mature products already in production that need design engineering support for improvement or optimization of mechanical components.
  • Educate, train, mentor and coach other design engineers, drafters and technicians that have less experience or knowledge in the mechanical engineering field.
  • Stay up to date on technology and industry trends and propose new materials and processes to management that can give the company a competitive advantage.

Knowledge, skills, & Abilities:

  • Must have advanced working knowledge of solid modeling and analysis using SolidWorks.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with others to perform a wide variety of tasks in a fast-paced engineering/production environment.
  • Desirable: Extensive knowledge of technologies and processes used in CNC machining, fabrication, plating, welding and EDM of aluminum and stainless-steel enclosures.
  • Desirable: Experience with MIL-STD and FAA level environmental testing.
  • Desirable: Experience and working knowledge Additive Manufacturing

Education, Experience, & Training:

  • BSME or equivalent relevant experience.
